Like the American classic, The Graduate - secrecy, betrayal, and a painful coming of age face a family in Mulligans, the stunningly mature feature film debut by director Chip Hale. When Tyler Davidson brings his college buddy Chase home for the summer holidays, Chase is taken in by the seemingly perfect family: Nathan, the handsome patriarch who golfs with his son and clearly dotes on his young daughter; and mom Stacey (played by Queer as Folk's Thea Gill), his sharp-witted and compassionate wife. Yet, over the course of the summer in their spacious summer home, a secret is revealed that threatens to tear this perfect family apart. Chase, who has yet to come out to his best friend, fits in with the assorted family friends - Tyler's girlfriend and childhood friends, often found partying as they quickly approach adulthood. The family-focused idyll soon rubs on Chase, and he struggles to keep his attraction to Tyler's father under control. But Chase isn't the only one with a wandering eye… Nathan also struggles to resist his feelings for his son's best friend while safeguarding his life-long secret to protect his family. What would you do if the one thing you wanted could ruin your life? With a stunning ending that flies in the face of our notions of a traditional finale, Mulligans is an emotional tour-de-force portrayal of a family, and one man especially, trying to keep it together despite the mounting pressure.
