WARNING: This film contains musical theater performed by very happy Hollywood hyphenates. If musical theater offends you, then please stay away, but if you love singing and don't mind naked boys (and who does?), then sit right down to enjoy a front row seat at one of off-Broadway's longest running musical revues brought to life on film. Don't be shy. Come in, strip down and sing along!
For those unfamiliar with the phenomenon known as Naked Boys Singing!, the play first went 'full-frontal' at Los Angeles’ Celebration Theater in 1998. Since its raucous debut, the revealing revue has dropped its drawers for eager audiences around the world and was voted best musical by LA Weekly and Backstage West. Now in its 8th year in New York, the musical has played over 2,500 packed performances. Special attention should be given to The Milwaukee Gay Arts Center production of the show, featuring such original songs as "I Beat My Meat," "Perky Little Porn Star" and "Nothin' but the Radio On.”
The production was closed by the local vice squad last year, and similar shutdowns occurred in 2004 in Atlanta and in 2003 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
In Naked Boys Singing! The Movie, the cast includes a multi-talented selection of singers, dancers and actors including Jason Currie, Kevin Stea (Madonna's "Blonde Ambition" tour), Joe Souza, Joseph Keane, Phong Truong, Salvatore Vassallo, Andrew Blake James, Anthony Manough, Jaymes Hodges, and original stage cast member Vincent Zamora, who bare it all. With strong performances from the multi-ethnic cast, Naked Boys is a must-see for fans of the show and a fresh discovery for those looking for quality entertainment.
