Zach, an aspiring artist, surfer, and skateboarder, lives on the wrong side of the tracks in Southern California with his sister and her young son. One day he reunites with Shaun (Brad Rowe, Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss), his wealthy best friend’s older brother. As the two ride the waves together their relationship strengthens. Despite his sister’s misgivings about Zach spending so much time with the openly gay Shaun (and away from her), he can’t help being drawn to him. Zach is forced to acknowledge his orientation and the changes in his relationships with those close to him that result. Sensitively told and full of great surfing photography, Shelter is a poignant and beautiful story of self-discovery.
